Features
The full catalog of what Moment does, across the iOS app, Apple Watch, and e-ink planner.
Moment is a mortality awareness practice. It is delivered through three surfaces: an iOS app (with Apple Watch and lock-screen widgets), an e-ink Moment Planner generated as a PDF for reMarkable, Supernote, Kindle Scribe, or A5 print, and a library of essays. Below is the full catalog of features available across each surface.
iOS app
Available on the App Store. Subscription product. Includes Apple Watch surface and lock-screen widgets at no additional cost.
Visualization
- Life visualization carousel. Five views of your life, swipeable: progress percentage, an analog clock where one revolution equals one lifetime, life in weeks, life in months, and life in years. Each view renders the same fact in a different shape.
- Life progress display. Weeks lived versus weeks remaining, calculated against actuarial life expectancy and your birth date.
- Time Together. Add the people and pets you love to your Timeline. Moment shows years known, years remaining together, and the percentage of overlap.
Reflection and journaling
- Daily quote. Each morning, a quote from a tradition that took mortality seriously. Drawn from the Stoics, the Buddhist canon, the Bible, modern existential philosophy, and contemplative traditions.
- Daily reflection prompt. A short question paired with the quote, structured to be carried into the day rather than answered immediately.
- Reflection editor. A simple editor for writing a response to the daily prompt.
- Reflection history. Browse and revisit past entries. The archive is yours.
Meditation
- One-minute and three-minute sessions. Brief enough to fit between other things in the day. Each session pairs a breathing exercise with phrases drawn from a curated library.
- Six contemplation pools. Mortality (drawn from the Buddhist maraṇasati tradition), love, compassion, joy, balance (the four brahmavihārās taught alongside maranasati), and appreciation. Each daily session draws from a thirty-triplet pool.
Time Together
- Timeline screen. Add up to ten people and pets. See the years you share with each in portrait or landscape view, side by side.
- Pet support. Custom life expectancy by species, so the years remaining with a fifteen-year-old dog look different from the years remaining with a niece.
- Time Together lock-screen widgets. Up to ten lock-screen widgets, one per person in your Timeline. Each shows a circular progress ring with the person’s initials.
Lock-screen widgets
- Life Progress Circular widget. A 210-degree progress ring with your initials in the center and your birth and projected end years flanking the bottom gap.
- Countdown Rectangular widget. Three rows showing years, months, and days remaining. Daily refresh.
- Inline Countdown widget. A single-line YY:MM:DD with an hourglass icon. The most compact expression.
- Live Activity / Dynamic Island. On newer iPhones, a live ticking countdown to your projected life expectancy.
Apple Watch
Detailed coverage on the Apple Watch page. Summary:
- Three-page watch app. Live HH:MM:SS countdown, daily quote, daily reflection prompt. Navigated by digital crown or swipe.
- Seven complications. Circular, Rectangular, Inline, Corner Life Progress, Corner Daily Countdown, Corner Midnight Countdown, and a configurable Time Together complication.
- Smart Stack entry. The rectangular countdown rises to the top of your watch’s Smart Stack in the hour before local midnight. Quiet surfacing, not a notification.
Subscription
- Free trial. All paid features available during the trial.
- Monthly and annual plans. Annual is the better deal.
- Purchase restoration. Subscriptions follow your Apple ID across devices.
Customization
- Theme system. Multiple themes that affect the app, widgets, and watch surfaces.
- Appearance mode. Light, dark, or system.
- Handedness support. Layout adjustments for left-handed and right-handed use.
- Visualization order. Reorder which visualization appears first in the carousel.
- Notification preferences. Opt in or out of daily quote, reflection prompt, and meditation reminders independently.

- Share reflection. Share a written reflection as a formatted image.
Moment Planner
An e-ink daily planner for the year. Generated as a PDF customized to your birth date and life expectancy. One-time purchase via the planner page. After checkout, the server generates the file and emails it to you.
Daily content
- One page per day. Each page includes the date, a daily quote, a reflection prompt, the moon phase, and a life-progress visualization showing where this day sits in your projected lifetime.
- Reflection prompts. The same prompts the iOS app surfaces, formatted for handwriting on paper.
- Daily quotes. Drawn from the same library as the app.
- Moon phases. One per day, included as ambient context.
- Philosophical sections. Section dividers with longer-form brand and philosophical content at transitions in the year.
Devices
The planner is generated specifically for the device you choose. Page dimensions, button placement, and toolbar affordances differ across devices and the PDF is sized accordingly.
- Supernote A5X / Manta. Native page dimensions, optimized for the Supernote pen experience.
- Supernote A5X side toolbar variant. A layout variant that accounts for the Supernote side toolbar.
- Supernote A6X / Nomad. Smaller-format Supernote.
- reMarkable 2. Tuned for reMarkable’s page dimensions and pen latency.
- Kindle Scribe. Tuned for the Scribe’s aspect ratio and writing surface.
- A5 print format. Standard A5 dimensions for customers who want to print the planner on paper.
Generation and delivery
- Personalized PDF. The customer enters birth date, life expectancy, and chosen device on the planner setup page. The server merges this configuration into a LaTeX template, generates the PDF, and emails it.
- Stripe checkout. One-time purchase. No subscription. The PDF is yours after payment.
- Email delivery. The PDF arrives in your inbox after generation completes, typically within a minute.
Library
Long-form essays on mortality, time, and meaning. The library is freely accessible and not gated by subscription.
- Maranasati: How to Practice Mindfulness of Death . the Buddhist tradition of death meditation, including the cemetery contemplations.
- Mortality Meditation: A Plain-Language Guide . a secular, plain-language guide with a guided script and the practice across traditions.
- What the Research Says About Memento Mori . research synthesis distinguishing death anxiety from death reflection.
- On the Shortness of Life . a modern English rendering of Seneca’s De Brevitate Vitae.
Manifesto
Mortality Awareness: How to Live a Meaningful Life is the argument behind Moment, in four steps: time, mortality, meaning, presence.
Brand
Moment is a mortality awareness practice, not a productivity app, journaling app, or wellness app. The brand is distinct from Calm, Headspace, Day One, Stoic, and WeCroak, each of which declines one or more of the category’s three requirements: mortality named directly, reflection structured, outcome life-positive.
